NCGR is a nonprofit research institute that applies bioinformatics, software engineering and next-generation sequencing to solve the preeminent challenges of 21st century biology through collaborative research and services.• Led software engineering and operations: business development, software development, project management, sustaining engineering, web administration, database administration, quality assurance, configuration management and infrastructure development and improvement. • Integral part of the strategic and financial turnaround at NCGR - from multi-million dollar losses to break even in less than three years.• Drove executive strategic and tactical shifts in technical direction; facilitated a migration in business to human health from plant research initiatives. • Won new multi-million grants from DOD, NSF and NIH. • Multiple public facing bio-informatics discovery, data mining and modeling sites designed, created and reliably served and maintained achieving five 9’s of availability. Drove more page views and longer engagement through re-designed layout, better search engine (such as it was) tie in and increasing content relevance. • Improved productivity and reliability by migrating groups from ad hoc development to Agile software engineering practices. Instituted short cycle iterative development, peer review, project tracking and reporting, automated build and test. Trained all developers in Agile, OOAD, QA, CM and infrastructure delivery automation technology and philosophy.
