My responsibilities includes execution and management of a number of research and teaching programmes and fund raising in the field of social sciences and natural resources (anthropology of law) for Wageningen University. I hold management responsibility for directly supervising app 15 PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in international development issues. They work on institutional and organizational aspects of (agro)pastoralism and agriculture, local livelihoods, land tenure, natural resource management (forest, pastures, fisheries), interethnic relations, conflict and also migration, climate change adaptation and agricultural decision-making under high-risk conditions.

I am collaborating with colleagues from both institutions, and hold management responsibility for directly supervising and mentoring over 15 Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral researchers in international development issues. They work on institutional and organizational aspects of (agro)pastoralism and agriculture, local livelihoods, land tenure, natural resource management (forest, pastures, fisheries), interethnic relations, conflict and also migration, climate change adaptation and agricultural decision-making under high-risk conditions. Currently I am coordinating a research programme on poltical mobilisation among pastoralists in the West African Sahel (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger) (http://nomadesahel.org/) and am the chair of a COST action entitled 'Drylands Facing Change: Interdisciplinary Research on Climate Change, Food Insecurity and Political Instability' (CA16233) http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ca/CA16233 )Next to my experience in West Africa I have been involved in research in forest governance in various countries (India, Kenya, Ghana, Vietnam), and studies in post-conflict reconstruction and land governance (South-Sudan, Uganda, Burundi, DRC), as thesis supervisor and programme leader. In addition I am teaching in the Wageningen University BSc programme International Land and Water Management, the Wageningen MSc programme International Development Studies, the Leiden University MPhil programme African Studies and core teacher of the PhD programme of CERES interuniversity research school in development studies
