Mike Burns, has a long history as a successful entrepreneur. Born in Hubbardston, Michigan. He achieved many awards for cross country in high school, and attended college at Central Michigan University on a full running scholarship, running a personal record of 4:02 for the mile. After college he ran a personal record of 2:19 for the marathon distance.In 1979, Mike established the Burns Computer Services company and offered an innovative computer timing system to running events. Later, Mike added bar code timing to his system. In 1985, Mike began The International Race Information Network, a “1-900” phone service pre internet that allowed runners to call to receive their race results on the same day of the event, as opposed to waiting for results to arrive in the mail. In 1996, Mike discovered a timing system in Europe called ChampionChip that was using the technology of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to score events. Mike signed on as the North American distributor for the system and introduced the technology to the running world at the 1996 Boston Marathon. Soon RFID became the standard for race timing, and Mike was distributing the technology to the nationwide network of professional timers. In 2009, Mike expanded the use of his RFID systems to offer tracking of persons through conventions and medical drills. This system is called the Personnel Summary Time Analysis Tracking System (PSTATS). In 2010, Apple® introduced their revolutionary tablet, the iPad. Mike created an app for finish line results. However, a tablet needed a holding device to make it useful and secure at a finish line. Mike created the Hand-e-holder as his solution to the problem. Interest in Mike's new iPad device was so positive, that Burns began a new company, Handeholder Products, Inc.
