In this role, I collaborated with post doctorates, graduate, and fellow undergraduate students to advance research in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). My contribution included, but was not limited to, the execution of western blots, H&E microscopy analysis, statistical data analysis, and data presentation. I additionally took part in weekly journal clubs and literature reviews.

During the summer of 2019, I participated in a summer immersion research course in which I took part in 3 different lab rotations performing the following research: Conducted research on “The Effect of PCAF-1 Knockout on C. Elegan Motor Neuron Reprogramming”- Explored the effect of PCAF-1 knockout using RNAi, and its effect on the duration of the competency window in C. Elegans.Conducted research on “The effect of NPFR & CCHA-1-R neuromodulators on Drosophila Grooming Behavior”- Utilized knowledge of the GAL4-UAS system to alter gene expression and neuronal activity to deduce the role of NPFR and CCHA-1R neuromodulators in the drosophila grooming mechanism. Conducted research on “The Effect of Acetylsalicylic Acid on Tau Aggregation”- Tested the efficacy of Acetylsalicylic acid on the prevention of Tau aggregation in H4-K18LM cells. Utilized FRET and flow cytometry to quantify data, followed by statistical analysis using PRISM.

Conducted independent research on “The inhibitory effect of coconut oil, monolaurin, and vancomycin on Staphylococcus aureus”.  Designed, executed and analyzed a self-driven experiment that examined the efficacy of a suspected antibacterial agent, monolaurin, against Staphylococcus aureus. Presented research findings at the University of California Irvine’s statewide research conference (HTCC) and the Saddleback College annual symposium.
