Throughout my four years at BSB, I have regularly changed my role and developed as a teacher. I am now lead geography teacher, being in charge of all of the exam classes, having achieved excellent results last year. I also develop and help with the delivery of KS3 geography, continually updating to the world around us. A few years ago I was head of year nine which gave me a great insight into the critical role the school and teachers play in safeguarding our students and helping them develop into the best version of them possible. I am currently a tutor for a year 10 group. One of my main passions in the school is getting the students learning outdoors, I have done this through organising and running many geography trips (I am planning an international trip to Iceland) and being involved in the Duke of Edinburgh. I have achieved excellent results at this school, my first A Level class, 50% achieved A*, and 100% had A*-C. Last year 66% of my IGCSE students achieved A*/As.

I completed maternity cover in St George’s, where the school went through an ISI inspection and were given Excellent. I was teaching IB Geography and ESS, and key stage 3 geography.

After two years of living and working in Central America, I have a new found love of my specialist subject, geography. I was made the Subject Coordinator of geography, which allowed me to organise and direct how I want this awe-inspiring subject to be taught. I am one of two geography teachers in the school, but the only geography specialist so has the sole responsibility of the International Baccalaureate and the IGCSE course, and organise the teaching of key stage 3. A challenging area, to begin with, was teaching the International Baccalaureate which I have enjoyed adding to my skills; within this, I have had the opportunity to supervise some extended essay students and oversee the internal assessments for my class. This school is a bilingual school, and the students need to have excellent English levels to be able to complete the IB course, so throughout the school, I have incorporated ways to help the students improve their English skills, in particular, lower down the school.

Within the three years in this Manchester school, I was allowed to experiment with my teaching skills and expand and improve my practice. I taught both key stage 3 and 4, and have experience of teaching different levels of ability. I not only taught geography, but also History at KS3, and Travel and Tourism at Key Stage 4. I was heavily involved in extracurricular events, I ran the Eco Girls Club, which covered a whole variety of activities where the students: ran an organic garden, competed in a recycled fashion show, created a short film and sorted out the recycling in the new school. I was also one of the lead teachers on the School’s World Challenge Expedition which took ten girls to Morocco for a trekking and volunteering program; I believe that these experiences make the students more well-rounded individuals. I organised and ran a residential trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall; this involved applying for funding, carrying out the risk assessment and liaising with parents before the trip.This school gave me experience in behaviour management and differentiation, in my second year I was propelled into leading the department as other members of staff were off on maternity leave; this gave me the opportunity to lead on GCSE geography entries, organising the field trips and setting up the new GCSE course.
