National Management Trainee- Resilient Communities
This was my first placement on Impact: the Local Government Graduate Programme (formerly NGDP).I worked across the Localism and Devolution teams to empower communities to protect and own their vital community assets. I worked extensively with Town and Parish Councils and other community groups as well as with elected members to deliver on the strategic place-shaping visions of communities. I was also given the opportunity to lead on a Community Asset Transfer which allowed me to utilise my project management training from my CMI Level 7 in Strategic Management and Leadership.Alongside this, I coordinated one of Cornwall’s strategic Outcome Delivery Plans to deliver a Vibrant, Safe, Supportive Community. I managed the strategic refresh for 24/25 and produced the Annual Report for VSSC highlighting the achievements of the 23/24 financial year. Additionally, I coordinated quarterly performance reports through supporting intervention leads to understand, access and contribute towards the council wide PowerBI dashboard. Through this I gained extensive knowledge of the business planning and performance reporting processes.
Co-Chair For Representation And Engagement
CurrentThis role followed on from my experience as Events Lead and encompasses the wider management of the Engagement team to support with planning events, coffee mornings, co-working days, and establishing a buddy network. Additionally, alongside my Co-Chair, we have been working with the LGA and Solace to improve support on the programme and encourage active inclusion and accessible practice across the scheme. This will initially include the production of a toolkit of support alongside concrete updates to policy and guidance supplied to councils and NMTs.
Events Lead
I was Events Lead for the NGDP Disability and Inclusion Network. Primarily this involved organising speaker and discussion events for our members to actively promote disabled experiences in local government and to widen the understanding of accessibility and inclusion. I also supported the wider ambitions of the network through promoting external events and planning for the future strategic aims of the network.
Disabled Students Network- Education Officer
I acted as Education Officer for the Disabled Student Network. This involved attending weekly committee meetings to discuss topics ranging from accessibility to socials. I also attended the Disabilities Representative Forum, ensuring communication between the two committees and the wider community to encourage educational accessibility across the university.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
I undertook research for the Carnegie funded project on Adam Zoernikav’s Procession of the Holy Spirit, written c.1682.This initially involved copy-editing of the newly translated text in preparation for publication. I then identified opportunities to widen awareness of the project and its materials, notably through assisting in laying the framework for an interactive map illustrating the pan-European nature of Zoernikav. Finally, I engaged in discussions of how to to organise the material within headings that encourage multi-disciplinary audiences.
Summer Teams Enterprise Project
Project title: How do we know if our Public Engagement 'Ask Me Anything' project was successful? And what are the next steps?Within a team of three other students, I supported the St Andrews Public Engagement team in assessing their current project and proposed improvements in moving public engagement online after Covid-19.This involved conducting detailed research into the demographics of intended audience and their preferred social media platforms and then using this research to create a series of guidelines for academics in producing their content. I particularly focused on ensuring that the guidelines met best practice accessibility requirements.
