I project manage several engineering projects including both new product development and R&D, as well as managing day to day current product support of Opto-electrical systems . Balancing these projects requires me to be efficient and organised to ensure I am fully aware of project progress and spot risks and issues arising. Having a technical engineering background gives me the ability to engage in technical reviews where required and understand the technical risks with the project. Day to day the role involves leading team stand-ups and meetings, working closely with technical leads and senior stakeholders, presenting and communicating progress updates, managing and updating project documentation including schedules, risk registers, PMP's, project mandates, gate reviews etc. The role also stretches me to manage my projects at a program level to ensure they are all working towards the same strategic goal, in-line with divisional vision and adapt my project teams resource and workload to prioritise critical tasks. I strive to introduce process change improvements where I spot opportunities and have successfully implemented several new processes including formalising process documentation, communicating change and organising working groups, and continually monitoring the effectiveness of the new process.

Led a successful project to deliver an additive alternative for an aluminium alloy engine gearbox air oil separator component for aerospace applications implementing highly refined lattice structure, working to customer specifications and requirements, managing risk and delivery to cost, quality and time. Worked on several heat exchanger design projects, modelling geometry and optimising for AM and pushing the limits of SLM MPBF geometries. Managing stakeholders, customers and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery. As well as implementing several process improvements across the business to increase productivity and quality. Engaged in a detailed RCA to identify additive machine problems causing defects in build, which provided a detailed unsighted into LPBF additive machines, as well as process parameters for optimal material characteristics of thin walled structures.

Having been a Student Rep since my first year at university, I have recently come a Lead Department Rep. This role encompasses the responsibilities of a student rep such as collecting student feedback and relaying it in meetings with academics. However this role also involves attending meetings for the whole department (Engineering, Design & Mathematics) to provide information and feedback from the students. I am set tasks to complete in order to help improve the quality of student experience and am relied upon to get them done in a timely manor. With the upcoming opening of the new engineering building I have a key input to express what will work for the students to make it the most effective space for learning and collaborating on projects.

I have taken on the role as a Senior PAL Leader to develop my skills in mentoring. I am able to observe PAL sessions and provide constructive feedback which helps the students reflect on their performance and explore ways to make the session more effective. As part of this role I am currently undertaking a Level 3 qualification in mentoring with the institute of leadership and management (ILM) to build on my personal development.

I have worked as a tutor/mentor for the engineering foundation students here at UWE. This has involved facilitating weekly sessions where students are able to participate in engaging experimental workshops, which allows them to actively gain an understanding of basic aerodynamic principles. The experiments introduce the students to using the wind tunnel as a tool to collect data from a wing section, as a group we analyse the data by processing it in microsoft excel and then discuss what conclusions we can draw from it. The workshops allow students to develop skills in data collection, processing and analysis while also learning the fundamentals of lift, drag and pressure distribution of a wing/aerofoil.

After working as a STEM ambassador while on placement with ATKINS I was keen to continue my work to engage students in my local community. Being a Student Ambassador allows me to work at a huge variety of events which include: University Open Days, Widening Participation with local schools, Running STEM classroom activities for students of all ages, Graduation Ceremonies, HE/UCAS Fairs, STEM Events (eg, imagineering @ the bath and west show), Clearing Phone Line Operator, Placement Promotion, and many more. By being involved in a diverse range of roles I have developed the skill to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds. My performance as an ambassador has been recognised and I have recently been made a Senior Student Ambassador. This role carries extra responsibilities such as being a team leader and presenting to large groups of students.

I have experience working with students in the local area on projects such as Flying Start Challenge, to enthuse and inspire children into STEM subjects. Flying Start challenge encourages secondary school children to explore aerodynamics and design a hand thrown glider, ready to complete against student from around the south west. I have been into local schools to give career advice as I believe more needs to be done to promote engineering to students while they are young and have their options open. I also believe part of the problem is educating the teachers about the opportunities available in engineering and promoting apprenticeships. I would love to be seen as a role model, and prove that it doesn't matter who you are, what your hobbies are or where you come from, engineering doesn't discriminate and anyone can be an engineer if they have the passion.

Experience working on A350 projects evaluating the static stress analysis of WT LE/TE and Covers for both metallic and composite components. Tasks included FEM modifications (Hypermesh/Nastran Convention) specifically fastener idealisation. I have experience using ISAMI to run Filled Hole, Bocatas, and Plain Strength modules to review the stress in components (Using Excel spread sheet method and by creating individual analysis internally). Experience working along side clients such as FACC, Airbus and Spirit Aerosystems, using Skype messaging as a method of communication with colleagues worldwide. I am competent using Excel as a data processing tool to evaluate results and produce professional workbooks to deliver to the client. I have had the opportunity to complete the WT LE static stress authorisation and was involved in writing sections of the final dossiers (ASR & CJR) for delivery. While not on project work I have spent time learning about user defined elements in Abaqus, specifically writing an element to simulate beam/column effects for linear analysis, since current methods neglect inherent behaviours. Implementation of the element could improve linear analysis and visualisation of true deflections. Beam/columns could be used to model stringers in Wing analysis given there geometry and effective loading.

In my second year of University I have worked as a PAL leader providing help and assistance to first year students throughout the year by holding weekly discussion classes. I had to present information and plan lessons to keep the students engaged and also provide an explanation to topics they did not understand. This taught me how to talk to people on a personal and senior level and how to empathise with student when they were struggling. I had to balance my time, by completing my University work and planning lessons to give to the first year students. I found the experience very rewarding, as I was able to share my knowledge and experience with those who required them. I was able to make friends along side expanding my skills in communication, presenting and organisation.
