In the summer of 2023, I completed a comprehensive 7-week peer support training program to prepare for my role at Sean’s House, a crisis center near the University of Delaware campus. This training provided in-depth education on mental health, crisis intervention, and effective ways to support individuals in need. It also allowed me to connect my own lived experiences with mental health to the work we do at Sean’s House, where we strive to provide compassionate and effective support to every individual who walks through our doors. A unique and impactful component of the training was the weekly healthcare theatre sessions. These involved professional actors simulating crisis scenarios, enabling us to practice real-time responses based on our training. This hands-on approach significantly enhanced my ability to provide peer support, refine my communication skills, and deepen my understanding of mental health challenges. This experience has been invaluable in equipping me with the skills and confidence needed to support individuals during some of their most vulnerable moments. It has also reinforced my passion for mental health advocacy and my commitment to fostering a safe, supportive environment for those seeking help.I have valuable experience in event planning and coordination, particularly through my role as Chairwoman for Gamma Phi Beta’s annual philanthropy event, Spagammi in 2024. This event raises funds for Girls on the Run, an organization that empowers young girls to participate in athletics, build strong relationships, and develop into confident and capable women. As Chairwoman, I was responsible for overseeing every aspect of the event, which hosted over 400 attendees. My duties included coordinating a large-scale food order, organizing event setup, managing the funds raised, and creating promotionalcampaigns to ensure strong community turnout. This role required exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and communicate effectively with large groups. Planning and executing this successful event not only contributed to a worthy cause but also provided me with hands-on experience in managing complex logistics, coordinating fundraisers, and fostering teamwork. These skills have strengthened my ability to lead and execute high-impact projects.
