Assists the Director and the Coordinator of Community Outreach in the Center for Gerontology with event planning, press releases, and general secretarial duties. This position has allowed me to discuss the Age-Friendly Cities initiative with local business leaders, international visitors, and the mayor, each providing a unique perspective. The ability to engage others in an important issue, by making it relevant to them, is a skill I have observed and used. This experience, more than any other, has taught me how to present myself in a professional manner, ready to listen and to contribute in a meaningful way.

Worked as a pharmacy technician filling prescriptions, filing documents, answering the phone, waiting on customers, packing capsules, and preparing patients for vaccine administration. It was while working at the pharmacy that I first became aware of and interested in some of the special needs of the aging population. I became particularly aware of how common the practice of polypharmacy is within the geriatric population and how confusing this can be for the patient.
