Hannah Durand Email and Phone Number
As a first-generation undergraduate transfer student, I have faced many challenges, including overcoming a diagnosed learning disability to achieve academic and personal success, socioeconomic challenges to financially support myself through school, and as a community college transfer student to WCU. My journey toward overcoming challenges within my undergraduate experiences has instilled a passion for supporting college students with varying identities and experiences. As a result, I am deeply passionate about supporting first-year undergraduate students, students who identify as first-generation, and transfer students in my future career as an academic advisor. In addition to my passions as a future academic advisor, I am highly motivated and passionate about promoting accessibility and inclusion on college campuses. In particular, I have led initiatives such as "Don't DIS my ABILITY," which centers advocacy and awareness toward the challenges and barriers that individuals with disabilities still face on college campuses. I have extensive research experience on topics connected that advocate going beyond accommodations for individuals with disabilities and towards a social justice model of disability that incorporates a universal design approach to accessibility.
