Grameen America is a non-profit poverty-reduction organization that provides micro-loans to low-income entrepreneurs to empower them and develop communities. Founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammed Yunus of Grameen Bank, Grameen America implements the same Grameen poverty-reduction model to fight economic injustice in the United States. As Director of Development and Partnerships for California, I formulated the strategic fundraising and development plan for Grameen America's operations in California. I managed relationships with current partners and funders and executed projects to ensure the development of Grameen America in the Bay Area. I forged new relationships with donors, and identified new opportunities for partnership.

Oakland, Ca

I set up and launched Grameen America's first office in California. Main tasks were assessing market demand, proposing a location for the branch, securing an office space, providing research and recommendations for key decisions. Other tasks included recruiting and hiring 9 new staff, training, and supervising staff. In addition, making strategic partnerships with community organizations, financial institutions, and disbursing the first micro-loans.

Malta

As a Fulbright Scholar, supported by the U.S. Dept of State, I spent 1.5 years in Malta representing the United States to help develop favorable relations between the two countries. I headed a research project on refugee integration in Malta, working with the United Nations Refugee Office in Malta. I also taught English at the University of Malta, at secondary schools, and at refugee centers.

Public relations projects and work in legal protection processes, resettlement, and independent research and interviewing of refugees.Designed and conducted integration research project and presented my findings and analysis to 70-100 NGO representatives and government officials. I wrote and published news articles and feature pieces on the UNHCR website to promote public awareness of refugee life in Malta. I conducted interpersonal interviews with refugees around the country and created an audio library for publication on the UNHCR website, expanding the campaign to promote UNHCR's vision through public relations and media visibility. As a PR Intern I created new channels for promoting public visibility by using social media and technology platforms. I helped organize the 60th anniversary Cultural Fair for World Refugee Day and its PR campaign. I represented the face of UNHCR at events at the American Embassy to maintain excellent relations with UNHCR's supporters. As a Durable Solutions Intern, I did outreach work in refugee open centers, assisted with resettlement procedures, registered new individuals for the UNHCR Durable Solutions Database and provided information on processes of resettlement and family reunification, integration and other durable solutions to refugees.

I helped organize a major event focusing on oil drilling in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador and its effects. I organized volunteers, food, and logistics for the event. I helped with monthly fundraising, updated donor databases and managed donations.
