I took on legislative, administrative, and casework responsibilities. I researched policy in the Judiciary portfolio under the guidance of legislative staff. In the months following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I supported the in-state team by assisting constituents with information about rent, food, housing, and unemployment benefits.

As President, I was the elected leader and voice for 18,000+ undergraduate students. As part of this role, I oversaw the operations of an agency with a 2.4-million-dollar annual budget and multi-million-dollar auxiliary bookstore, as well as lead the Executive Branch of the student government, which consists of 40+ student employees. I created a series of Student Town Halls and Community Problem Solving workshops surrounding issues such as racism, anti-Semitism, sexual assault, and ADA accessibility. I completed various community projects, including proposals to the Nevada State Legislature, the Nevada System of Higher Education, and the City of Reno.

My main duty as Speaker of the Senate was to set the vision and agenda for the legislative branch of the student government, as well as to oversee and manage 22 elected senators and eight senate secretaries. Our priorities surrounded civic learning, equity and inclusion, and democratic engagement initiatives. Among these are a year-long campaign to encourage more women to run for office, institutionalizing student lead town halls and community problem solving workshops, as well as the creation of the Student Expression, Rights & Responsibilities website.

As Senator for the College of Education, I focused on building the bridge between the college and the greater community. I collaborated with the office of Service Learning and the Washoe County School District to implement new democratic engagement and volunteer opportunities for students in their desired field. I worked to coordinate the “State of Our Schools” town hall event, allowing students and community members to have a dialogue on pressing issues within our county’s school system.As Speaker Pro Tempore of the Senate, I executed the duties of the Speaker in their absence, as well as planned, organized, and executed curriculum and learning outcomes for 23 Legislative Interns, including sentiments such as University, state, and federal laws and policies, writing procedures, time management, leadership development, and research skills.

As a Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE) student intern, I assisted in planning and executing a national conference focused on increasing CLDE initiatives in higher education. Along with a team of two other students, I engaged and educated students across the country about CLDE initiatives through social media, blog posts, and a half-day student symposium. At the conclusion of the conference, we created a student network in which student leaders could collaborate on CLDE work across the country.

The Office of the Vice President of Student Services is the main touchpoint for all student affairs on campus. As support staff for both the Vice President and the Executive Assistant, I was responsible for synthesizing information about the University to students, parents, and members of the community. I became proficient at various administrative tasks, such as answering calls, managing front desk operations, and filing documents. I also conducted research concerning student retention and graduation rates.

As State Alumni Representative for Nevada, I volunteered at least six hours per week coaching and judging the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program in high school, middle school, and elementary schools across the state. I collaborated with program alumni, K-12 teachers, as well as University faculty to provide volunteer opportunities in school programs and competitions. I assisted in coordinating district and state competitions, annual teacher trainings, and recruitment efforts for teachers and schools to implement the program.

I served as the liaison between the Nevada State Education Association executive board and Nevada State Education Association chapters across the state, discussing education policy and issues within the state of Nevada. In partnership with the University of Nevada Education Association, I worked to create civic engagement and volunteer opportunities for College of Education students.

As Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, I worked on a small team that successfully passed Washoe County Question 1, which increased the county sales tax in order to adequately fund the capital needs of public schools. In my role, I worked with multiple community organizations and individuals to coordinate volunteers for weekly walks and educational events. I recruited over 20 employees, as well as assisted in creating content for social media posts and press releases. I coordinated community outreach events and educational opportunities, serving as a spokesperson for the campaign.

I conducted research on case law, briefs, and policies regarding education in Washoe County and Nevada. In order to improve communication to the greater community, I consolidated over 500 law office contacts and clients into a contact management software.
