I am proud to be a volunteer for Learning it Together (LiT), a dynamic health promotion program driven by student volunteers at Western University. Our mission is to enhance early literacy, numeracy, and healthy living skills among London elementary school students through mentorship and positive role modeling. In my role as a LiT volunteer, I am paired with a bright and enthusiastic student from grades one, two, or three, attending either a housing community or an elementary school. Together, we embark on an exciting eight-week after-school program designed to challenge and inspire personal growth. Through engaging group activities, we foster a love for learning while emphasizing the importance of play.LiT is a program entirely created and implemented by students from the University of Western Ontario. It provides us with an incredible opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of London's children while gaining practical experience in the field of health promotion. As a LiT volunteer, I am proud to act as a role model, tutor, and friend to my buddy, offering them guidance and timely feedback. What sets LiT apart is our commitment to providing individual attention. With our low student-to-mentor ratio, each child receives personalized support, ensuring their unique needs are met. The flexibility of the program allows us to tailor our approach and ensure a rewarding experience for every participant.By joining LiT, I have become part of a dedicated team of responsible and enthusiastic student volunteers who share a common passion for empowering children, fostering academic success, and promoting healthy lifestyles. The impact we make goes beyond academic development; it shapes the future of these young learners and contributes to building a stronger community.
