• Leadership of the British Consulate to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Fairfield County, Connecticut (90 staff; 7+ UK Government Departments, including: FCDO, Business & Trade, Science & Technology, Visas & Immigration, Visit Britain); • Engaging with senior business and economic leaders with impact on UK prosperity (notably financial and professional services, creative industries, and science and tech sectors);• Oversight of a busy consular operation, as well as crisis preparedness and leadership; and• Delivering corporate change as a senior leader in the UK’s US Network.

• Lead official advisor in No10 to the Prime Minister on justice and home affairs issues; • Provided strategic advice to the PM on: immigration policy, policing and wider criminal justice reform, domestic national security including cyber and terrorism, legal and constitutional, and Crown Prosecution issues; • Prime Minister’s primary point of contact on domestic national security crises, including coordinating the government response to three terror attacks, one international chemical weapons attack, and several national cyber attacks.

• Led a cross-government programme to identify, negotiate and ratify crucial bilateral agreements with third countries upon EU Exit, spanning all sectors including: trade, customs, aviation, civil nuclear, mutual recognition of professional qualifications; and• Led direct engagement with a number of priority countries (inc: US, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and Turkey) and provided advice to Ministers and Ambassadors on delivery.

• Various roles in national security and foreign policy, including leading on the UK's response to the external migration crisis in 2015. • Set direction and coordinated major policy, ethical and legal issues of strategic importance to the UK national security community;• Oversaw advice to the PM and the Cabinet Secretary on a range of intelligence and security issues, including legacy issues, litigation and policy priorities; and• Ensured that the legislative frameworks remained fit for the future, including passage of the Investigatory Powers Bill. This included leading on international agreements on data sharing linked to the Bill and relationships with the Communication Service Providers.

• Supported the Head of Unit on delivery of the Prime Minister’s top priorities; experience included transition from Labour to Coalition Govt.• Built effective working relationships with No10, Cabinet Office and HM Treasury;• Devised the unit’s work programme, brokered future policy concerns with No10 and contributed to senior board discussions; and• Lead for performance reporting on Foreign Office, Ministry of Defence and Development.

• Overall programme and budget responsibility for delivery of a £12m police capacity building programme, the second largest UK funded Afghan programme;• Management of a large mixed police/civil service team;• Personal in-country interface between SOCA, UK Military and FCO, ensuring analysis and actioning of intelligence product collected from project activity was analysed for UK relevance and, where appropriate, actioned; and• Established trusted relationships with Afghan and international stakeholders (particularly counterparts in the FBI, CIA, State department and Afghan Deputy Minister of Interior)

• Led a joint international/Afghan team to increase the institutional capacity of the Counter Narcotics (CN) Police and CN element of the Afghan Ministry of Interior; and• Responsible for influencing countries, including the US, Germany, Norway, Australia and NATO to increase the size of the police mentoring effort.
