After over a year as a Jr Applications Analyst, I was promoted to Associate Applications Analyst. I became a trusted source of knowledge of master data applications for both partners and clients across the L Brands enterprise. I also took initiative to drive additional projects outside of my established area of expertise which enabled my continuous learning of internal applications, such as the applications used in the Merchandising process. I expanded to work with both brands owned by the enterprise and gained knowledge of the different types of data and workflows within each. Some key accomplishments include establishing data reporting tools for users, modernizing data maintenance methods, and automating change detection logic to send any updates to downstream databases. These results facilitated the elimination of redundant work for users, complete data integrity, and smooth data integration with international franchise partners.

I began my full-time experience with L Brands as a Jr. Applications Analyst. I took on several projects as a leader, and supported several ongoing projects as the main representative from my Product Master Data team. I drove successful outcomes including achieving regulatory compliance, creating technological solutions to decrease manual data creation time, and troubleshooting/maintaining existing applications owned by my team. With the support of my team, I was able to excel in this role and ultimately learn many new skills along the way. I became proficient in using Microsoft Access, writing SQL queries, navigating SAP MM and SAP PLM tables and UIs, and many other technical skills. During this time I was also recognized with an Outstanding Team Award by the VP of HR and the SVP of Enterprise Applications for my work to expand the 2019 Internship program, where I gave candid perspective as a former intern and created new events and resources for the interns.

During my internship with L Brands in the Internal Applications department, I was introduced to the concept of Master Data and became very familiar with SAP MM, alongside other internal applications that my team supported. I participated in the official L Brands internship program, which included attending senior leadership talks, networking with full-time employees across the enterprise, and taking on various tasks alongside my main project. I really enjoyed getting to take the lead on a project from start to finish, working with real clients and partners to outline the current state process and desired technological solution to the problem. After successful execution of the project and a presentation to Internal Applications leadership, I pursued the opportunity to build off of my experience as an intern and become a full time associate after I earned my degree at Ohio State.

As a brewery packaging operations co-op, I collaborated with line operators and managers to first standardize operations at the palletizer equipment center. Following Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, I created and implemented realistic 5S routines, Operating SOPs, and daily Process Indicator control charts for use and review. I then drove an improvement initiative to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and reduce palletizer equipment failures by approximately 5 per day. This was achieved by coordinating training, designing and publishing accessible troubleshooting manuals, and working with AB-InBev HQ analysts to fix equipment downtime measurement system. As a co-op, I not only led my own main project, but took on several side projects and had some educational experiences, as well. Experiencing the brewery environment for a world-famous brand was an unforgettable experience.

Greater Pittsburgh Area

After studying abroad for a May semester, I started my second internship at the UPMC Wolff Center in June ready to hit the ground running with last year’s experience under my belt. This year I was assigned a larger project to kick off and follow through during my time there. I conducted work sampling observations in a gastrointestinal (GI) lab, analyzed the data collected, and presented recommended tests of change to the GI Services team. Though my internship ended before I could see any results, the proposed changes were on target to decrease appointment delay times by 20%.

In my first summer at the UPMC Wolff Center, I was able to apply some knowledge gained during my first year of engineering studies at university, such as making advanced Excel analyses, performing work sampling observations, and collecting patient opinion data through surveys and interviews. Learning about process improvement through the lens of helping both patients and hospital staff inspired me while continuing my studies, knowing that in my career it was possible to make a difference for people.

In this role, I learned to work directly with customers and clients by coordinating orders and pickups between donors and recipients of event tickets. I also researched and presented findings on market expansion in different cities to service more children in need than just within the local area. I also worked to improve the work environment of my fellow employees by organizing files and databases.
