The most rewarding part of my job is digging deep to untangle and streamline accounting processes. The second most rewarding part, is seeing the smile on the faces of colleagues who no longer need to waste time on tiresome workarounds to get work done. Managers have often commented that I approach my work as if I am the owner of the organization, and that makes me an Owner/Leader. I feel strongly that Owner/Leaders should hire the best teams, develop and mentor them, as well as continuously improve processes. I’m most proud of the following accomplishments:• Identified opportunities for writing off $100MM fixed assets by establishing monthly review procedures.• Cut Division month-end closing time by 2 days by streamlining close process.• Reduced past due AR by 75% through optimizing team structure w/o increasing staff.• Received high level performance reviews for implementing ACCPAC accounting system.• Improved inventory control by establishing 3rd party warehouse reconciliation procedure.And, lastly, I’m always pondering ways to improve processes and procedures; sometimes an idea wakes me up at night, like the time I was selected to take on all capital expenditure projects and realized that the company didn’t have a CIP account in place. This caused many tracking and analysis challenges. I set up a new CIP account, then established comprehensive procedures. This saved time, money and frustration, and provided better communication and reporting for all capital expenditure projects.
