After application and pitch in 2021, Innovation Fund Denmark decided to include me and my start-up Hala Collective as part of the Innofounder programme. Aside from financial support from the Fund, I also received mentor support via Second Foundation, and both have been instrumental in moving Hala Collective forward on a stronger foundation.

This combined contributed to greater awareness regionally and prepared for capacity building of Jordanian municipalities to link refugee women to private sector jobs.Ensured social cohesion and displacement sensitive considerations and interventions in the World Bank’s strategic, analytical and operational responses in the Mashreq by writing background notes, providing input and reviews to cross-sectoral teams, and supporting the development of the Mashreq Displacement Response Framework and the Lebanon Fragility, Conflict & Violence (FCV) Risk Monitoring Framework. Result: Social cohesion and refugee/IDP-host community relations are included as important cross-cutting areas in the responses.Facilitated improved collaboration and coordination between the World Bank Group and development partners, including donors, UN agencies, INGOs and civil society organizations, by coordinating high-level strategic and technical workshops and meetings, specifically related to displacement. This has led to partnerships and regular dialogue, which support a more aligned development response and enhance the humanitarian-development nexus.

Analysed Palestinians’ situation in Lebanon through desk research and engagement with key stakeholders, including local and international organisations, Palestinian youth and authorities as well as Lebanese government officials, and developed policy recommendations on the rights and needs of Palestinian youth. This led to a Youth Strategy for Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon by LPDC (an inter-ministerial government agency under the Lebanese Council of Ministers).

Updated the visual identity of this small local non-governmental human rights organization and designed their annual reports and communications material, which improved their professional image. Assisted with fundraising for a paralegal project with refugee communities, which promoted legal awareness and rights of refugees.

Conducted two independent research projects in the informal migrant camp in Calais, Northern France, which included development of research design and methodology, retrieving ethical approval, planning and executing qualitative field research, as well as careful and thorough ethical considerations in relation to the vulnerable research participants and how to best disseminate the research results in this context. Research findings have led to an academic journal article in Geopolitics, exhibitions, photo essay, research report, films, and presentations at conferences.Specialised in the visual ethnographic method auto-photography, which lets the research participants guide the narrative through photos/video shot by them, thus allowing the participants’ perspectives to come to the fore and serve as the base for the follow-up interview.
