As a psychiatrist at Leger des Heils and Trauma Centrum Nederland, I have over 20 years of experience in providing mental health care to diverse and vulnerable populations, such as homeless people, people with substance-related disorders, post-traumatic anxiety and people with other severe mental illnesses. I am passionate about fighting stigma and advocating for peer support work in mental health care, as well as approaching anosognosia and cognitive disorders with compassion and respect.My field of expertise is psychotic disorders, especially in the context of homelessness, addiction, and forensic psychiatry. I have contributed to the development and implementation of assertive community treatment and assertive psychiatric outreach programs in the Netherlands, as well as to the publication of a handbook on emergency psychiatry. I have also participated in learning expeditions in New York City and Philadelphia, where I learned about innovative practices in homelessness, peer work, and street outreach. I am fluent in English and German, and have a special interest in mental health issues on international airports.
