I assist in the design, guidance and implementation of food business-line policies and programs related to science-based regulations of food exports and Canadian market access on a global stage. I specialize in fish and seafood exports and have a growing knowledge in other commodities (meat, dairy, egg, honey, maple, fresh fruit and vegetables, processed foods) as per the Single Food Program agency initiative and the upcoming implementation of the Safe Food for Canadians Act and Regulations (SFCA/R). I liaise with CFIA Operations Branch, the Inspectorate, and Canadian industry, industry associations, and diplomatic missions. I provide science-based guidance on issues such as food certification requirements, port-of-entry violations, and foreign country trade requirements. I update foreign country lists of Canadian establishments approved for export activity and I maintain CFIA export webpages with up-to-date information on export requirements. I analyze World Trade Organisation (WTO) notifications from foreign countries in order to determine their impact on Canadian trade and market access. I then strategically draft comments to these notifications reflecting Canada's position, using science-based rationale and internationally recognized standards such as Codex Alimentarius Commission. I aid with responses to audits of Canadian food systems by foreign competent authorities and actively work to maintain and expand Canadian market access. This is done through conducting research and compiling data for delivery to foreign competent authorities in the form of questionnaire responses related to the CFIA. I draft briefing notes for upper level management and letters to foreign competent authorities via Canadian missions. I participate in working groups to determine upcoming fiscal year work plans and to contribute to agency transformation initiatives and prepare CFIA draft documents and web coding in preparation for agency transformation and SFCA/R implementation.

I work in a Canada-wide multi-hospital emergency department clinical trial. The study involves the use of probiotics with the potential to alleviate symptoms of pediatric gastroenteritis (ProGut). As a research assistant of the ProGut trial I work with medical staff to screen outpatient entries within the emergency department, assess patient eligibility and conduct subsequent enrolment, and finally, aid in the administration the probiotic agent (Lacidofil®).

I process whole wildlife samples using Biohazard Level 2 safety precautions. Samples collected by research staff are processed for downstream genetic, pathogen/disease, fatty acid, heavy metals, stable isotope and POPs analyses. Tissue preparation involves: dissection, homogenization and aliquoting of samples; updating laboratory information management system (LIMS); and, storage of samples within the National Wildlife Specimen Bank.

I support research on mercury in the environment. This position involves biological sample preparation and analysis in genomics and metals ecotoxicology laboratories at the NWRC. My duties include sample preparation (lyophilization and homogenization), nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extractions from biological tissues, total mercury analysis of solid matrices, and data entry.

As a Project Officer at the BMC, I reviewed applications for the authorization to possess and the licence to grow medical marihuana. I corresponded with clients of the Medical Marihuana Access Program (MMAP) and helped to provide legal access to marihuana while adhering to program regulations. Moreover, I directly communicated with various provincial colleges of surgeons and physicians and the Royal Canadian College of Physicians and Surgeons to verify supporting medical practitioner credentials.
