About Harley Williamson, Phd

Dr Harley Williamson is a senior analyst at RAND Europe in Brussels, Belgium. Harley is a multi-disciplinary researcher with over a decade of research experience primarily in the areas of policing and the prevention of violence (including radicalization and violent extremism, and domestic violence). She has worked on large-scale projects that have sought to improve police practices with immigrants, minority groups, youths, and offenders. She has also conducted research on the social psychological processes that may shape support for (a) terrorism and (b) the policies that seek to counter terrorism. Harley has quantitative and qualitative methods expertise. She has experience in survey design, including those with experimental methodologies, as well as developing interview schedules and conducting interviews. She is proficient in the use of data analysis software packages, including statistical programs such as STATA and SPSS, and qualitative programs such as NVivo. Harley has conducted research with collaborators at the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Monash University and Western Sydney University in Australia, University College London in the UK, and Ghent University in Belgium. She has also completed projects with industry partners, including the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Corrective Services, the Department of Child Safety, and Queensland Courts in Australia. I also conducted face-to-face surveys with patrons in Fortitude Valley to assess their level of intoxication and attitudes towards substance use, alcohol-related violence, and the State Government’s lockout laws.
