Harold Williams was elected to the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors in November 2014 and has been appointed by his colleagues to serve as one of West Basin's representatives on the Metropolitan Water District Water Board. In this role, he serves on the Engineering & Operations Committee plus Organization, Personnel & Technology Committee. Williams is also a Member of the Board for the National Water Research Institute and CalDesal Executive Committee. Williams is a California registered civil engineer by profession, a career that he has held for over 40+ years. He is a Civil Engineer consultant, helping cities and special districts resolve their infrastructure challenges. Prior to entering private practice, Williams led the Department of Public Works for the City of Gardena as the Director of Public Works and City Engineer. He has held similar positions with the cities of Carson, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Compton and Lynwood.Williams has had consulting assignments providing local outreach services to garner support associated with Water for Tomorrow Program- West Basin's approach to addressing the service area's water future by Protecting the District’s existing water supply; Diversify and augment our water supply portfolio; and Innovate to prepare for the future, especially recovering water supply after droughts.A longtime Carson, CA resident and community leader, Williams' held leadership positions in numerous civic organizations and served on different city commissions plus served on the City of Carson Council.Career highlights:- Assistant Professor for the Civil Engineering Department at California State University Los Angeles- President of the City and County Engineers Association- President of the American Public Works Association - Southern California Chapter- Treasurer of the Los Angeles Council of Black Professional Engineers.
