Cycling should be accessible to all as a form of transport and exercise. Working at schools and drop-in sessions I help cyclists of all ages and abilities enjoy the freedom, fun and functionality of cycling.

I lead academic communication workshops at universities around the UK. Working with trained actors, I use my experience as a researcher to help postgraduates and postdocs develop the skills and confidence they need to effectively and memorably present their work to audiences of all types.

I managed CTUK's contract with the London Borough of Ealing to deliver cycle training to individuals, groups and schools as well as organising free maintenance checks at weekly Dr Bike sessions throughout the borough, and social rides and events. With my colleagues at CTUK I developed innovative means of delivering cycle training and cycling events to drive genuine behaviour change in transport. "We love cycling. We have trained over 80,000 people to cycle skilfully and confidently on roads. As well as delivering urban cycling sessions to individuals, schools, workplaces and organisations, we offer maintenance sessions, instructor courses and driver training."

I worked with Wheels for Wellbeing staff to fulfil their mission "to enhance disabled people’s lives by ensuring that anyone can access the physical, emotional, practical and social benefits of cycling." I covered session administration, bike maintenance, logistics and face-to-face work with cylists of all ages and abilities.

The EIT-ICT High Impact Initiative: Fit to Perform aims to create innovative technical solutions for monitoring and improving the health and performance of drivers. This builds on my interest in the use of remote and wearable technology to monitor our emotions and wellbeing. It also extends my previous investigations of human perception and action and how these can be augmented with technology.

Researching new techniques for detecting and synthesising laughter and analysing its many roles in social interactions. Designing devices, experiments and interaction scenarios for eliciting measuring and analysing laughter. ILHAIRE is an EU FP7 project, with nine partners in six EU countries, that aims to incorporate laughter into human-computer interactions in order to increase their efficacy and enhance user experience. Applications include emotionally competent avatars as game companions, teachers, and coaches for physical therapy. As part of a world class Human-Computer Interaction group (www.ucl.ac.uk/uclcic) I also supervised succesful MSc projects for two experienced students on the UCLIC HCI-E (Human-Computer Interaction with Ergonomics) course.

I was responsible for the experimental psychology component of a cross-disciplinary project investigating the perception of moving faces. I disseminated our research through peer-reviewed publications, at international conferences and to the public at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. This multidisciplinary project combined the pyschological expertise of the UCL Vision Research Laboratory with computer scientists at Queen Mary University of London.

I assessed mobility, quality of life and social isolation in people with Parkinson’s Disease through surveys and one-to-one testing. I assessed a novel virtual reality device for improving their walking ability, recruiting patients from clinics at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and visiting local patient groups. I also investigated various face-perception phenomena including attentional shifts in response to face stimuli. I began work on impaired face-perception in patients with cortical injury that I continued during my PhD.
