I am a Chartered Civil Engineer specialising in geotechnical engineering, with experience in the design and construction of civil engineering projects from the small to the large scale.Ground risk is a major consideration in all civil engineering projects. I believe that it is important to have a clear understanding of these risks, so that clients can make informed decisions that are appropriate to their particular project circumstances. One of the great things about working in geotechnical engineering is the variety of projects that you get to work on. I have been involved in a range of projects including airports, roads, rail, ports, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment plants and pipelines, industrial facilities, a geothermal power plant, substations, seismic assessment and design of buildings. The most unusual project I've been involved in was an oil and gas pipeline within the Arctic Circle requiring foundations in permafrost. A career highlight was being part of the team that successfully delivered the Heathrow Terminal 5 project.Since moving to New Zealand much of my work has a resilience focus, whether it be improving the resilience of the existing road network, helping local government clients plan and deliver resilient wastewater assets, assessing and designing flood defences for the impact of climate change or assessing and designing structures for seismic resilience. In my current role I manage the Central Geotechnical business with teams spread across our Wellington, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hamilton and Tauranga offices. Its a big playground!
