About Jody Hart

I’m a producer/director with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. I’ve developed and produced multiple feature films, TV series, and digital projects, worked in various crew roles on over 100 TV series and features, commercials, and video games, performed as an actor and stunt performer in dozens of productions, and most recently, served as a producer and consultant for nonfiction production company XG Productions. As a former Marine, I leverage my technical expertise to inform my approach to production, and I actively advocate for veterans in entertainment through my work.I got my start in the industry after serving in the United States Marine Corps -- I began working on set as an armorer and art department coordinator and quickly transitioned into stunt performance. Because of my military background, I became a technical advisor on series like ALIAS and CROSSING JORDAN, guiding directors on the most authentic ways to execute tactical scenes. During this time, I realized there was untapped potential among veterans to become stunt performers/background talent who wouldn’t need training on set for battle, military, or law enforcement scenes, thus saving productions time and money. This led me to launching Combat Casting, a casting company with a roster of over 300 veterans who became SAG eligible, and I supplied cast for hundreds of projects, including blockbuster films. I later founded my own production company, Combat Media Group, where I created military-themed content and secured contracts with the US Army and US Air Force to produce and direct interactive training videos.Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from top directors who have different styles – I’ve been on set with directors ranging from JJ Abrams to Clint Eastwood to Christopher Nolan to Michael Bay. This has helped me develop a strong understanding of production best practices and the ability to problem-solve on set. I’m especially good at working on tight budgets and deadlines. Because I have an intimate understanding of crew needs and strong vendor relationships, I’m able to cut unnecessary costs and keep shooting on schedule while prioritizing production safety. I’m seeking my next role in production. If you believe my expertise aligns with your needs, please feel free to get in touch!

Producer / Director / Line Producer

Before joining XG Productions, I worked on several of my own independent projects and freelanced as a producer, director, and line producer on various film, TV, and digital series. Each project has been different, but I’ve enjoyed a mix of creative development, directing, production logistics, and post-production. I’ve provided script notes, hired and supervised crews, built shooting schedules, drafted six-figure budgets, negotiated union and vendor contracts, secured permits, directed cameras and talent, crafted storylines in post, sourced archival footage, and reviewed cuts. One of my recent independent projects is OPERATION JERICHO, a script I optioned about two Muslim-American brothers who go undercover in Afghanistan to infiltrate a terrorist cell for the CIA. I collaborated with the writer to shape the script, and once it was ready, began planning for production. I aimed to film the project in New Mexico due to the tax rebates available there, and I identified a plot of land to purchase to create a studio that could later be rented out for other desert-set military projects. I oversaw initial pre-production and secured a group of international investors for the real estate and film. However, the project stalled following the tragic RUST shooting, as investors were hesitant to move forward with a highly militarized project in the same area. I hope to revive the film when the timing is right. Some of my other favorite independent/freelance projects include STUNT STORIES, a 10-episode digital series and live stage show featuring famed stunt performer Corey Eubanks (imagine INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO, but for stunt performers), STREET, an indie feature that received two Hollywood Film Festival Awards, and several fundraising videos for non-profit Homes 4 Families, which provides housing for veterans.Credits Include: Street (Feature Film)Stunt Stories (10 Episodes)Operation Jericho The Mansfield Killings (Budget development)Homes 4 Families (Fund Raisers)
  • Freelance
Stunt Performer / Actor / Technical Advisor / Armorer / Art Department
    Freelance Jul 1996 - Jan 2014
    Los Angeles Metropolitan Area
I got my start in the industry in the props department of PENSACOLA: WINGS OF GOLD. I then worked on several projects as an armorer, where I applied my existing knowledge of weapons safety to film and TV sets. Then, I became a stunt performer / actor, appearing in over 500 projects. On several, including ALIAS, I served as a technical advisor to the director to provide an authentic perspective for how tactical scenes could be constructed. My time as a crew member shaped me into the producer and director I am today. As a result of my work, I understand how things work up and down the chain of production and know how to address crew needs, communicate with different departments, and make effective creative and logistical decisions. I also benefitted greatly from taking direction from some of the most prolific directors of our time – I saw many different approaches to running a smooth set, scheduling shooting days, and producing projects at all budget levels.Credits Include:CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIERJ. XG Productions is a boutique production company owned by former FBI agents, specializing in true crime and military-themed content. I’ve developed and produced several projects for the company and am consulting with them to build out a branded content and commercial division catering specifically to brands in that space. One of the biggest projects I worked on here was TACTICAL INTERVENTION WITH LOGAN PAUL, a 2-episode digital series. I hired an all-veteran crew to capture footage as influencer Logan Paul went through a personal rebrand that involved real-world military instruction, including a tactical obstacle course and weapons training. I directed the cameras, crew, and talent, and most importantly, ensured safety on set. The series garnered 10M views on YouTube.Credits Include: I Survived a 72-Hour Military Combat School / Logan PaulThey Almost Killed Me / Logan PaulJenn Brown’s Urban Survival Guide / Jenn Brown
  • Combat Media Group, Llc
    Founder / Producer / Director
Combat Media Group, Llc Jan 2008 - Dec 2014
    Los Angeles Metropolitan Area
I founded Combat Media Group as a production company specializing in military-style content, and I negotiated contracts with the US Army and US Air Force to script, direct, and produce interactive training videos based on established curriculum. These videos were complicated productions – we filmed various scenarios, with multiple options for trainees to select as the “correct” response and subsequent plot lines to show how each decision would unfold. One set of training videos was akin to two features in length and required 34 different setups, but the budgets and timelines were extremely tight, and of course, military clients expected maximum efficiency. I was able to identify one location that could service multiple setups and found a way to shoot the projects in only a few weeks. Another highlight during this time was developing and producing web series NO IGNORING, in which our team embedded a father-son journalist duo within Army units in Iraq to document their experience. I communicated with the talent, who captured all the footage themselves on the ground, and managed the process to transfer it through Al Jazeera back to the states. Then, I identified storylines in post to thread together the series.Credits Include: US Army 360 Cultural Awareness (11 Episodes)US Air Force Vest Cultural Awareness (10 Episodes)Tull's Stag Prank (hidden camera prank)
  • Combat Casting, Inc
    Founder / Talent Manager
Combat Casting, Inc Mar 2001 - Dec 2014
    Los Angeles Metropolitan Area
I founded Combat Casting as a casting agency dedicated to sourcing veteran talent to be background talent, actors, stunt performers, and technical advisors. After spending many years as a stunt performer and technical advisor myself, I realized that productions wasted a lot of time training background actors in the proper ways to move during combat or law enforcement scenes. I also knew that fellow veterans needed pathways to employment. I began recruiting veterans at career fairs and other events and built relationships with casting companies and productions to let them know we had niche talent available. I built up a roster of 300 veterans who became SAG eligible and curated talent for major films, TV series, and video games.Credits Include:CAPTAIN AMERICAN: The Winter Soldier THOR: The Dark WorldAGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.TRUE BLOODNUMB3RSCROSSING JORDANALIASTHE PRINCESS DIARIES 2GOD OF WARCALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS
