I am an urban and regional planner with a particular focus on international development.I have lived and worked for 40 years in over 30 countries for both the public and private sectors. My work has ranged from industrial planning, new towns, and infrastructure projects, to Disney theme parks and reconstruction of war-torn and devastated areas. My training as a planner includes economics, strategic analysis, and urban design. I speak English, Spanish, and French, and can survive in German and Portuguese. I'm currently struggling with Chinese.Several topics particularly interest me in the field of planning and development:• Cross border planning – from bordertowns themselves to linked economies within international border regions•Smart Cities – separating the innovation from the hype• Infill development and densities – confronting a growing public ignorance about the need to promote development in our cities as we protect the environment around them• The future of bricks and mortar a digital world. What is the role of real space as we all retreat to cyberspace?I love my work because it is so aligned with my interests. And I learn new things everyday.
