- Leading research on a sub-component of a USIP funded project entitled “Whose Peace? Local Partnership and Multilateral Peacebuilding,” focusing on the roles of international and national peacebuilding actors in Sudan in response to political and economic shocks.- Research roles include advising and developing a research agenda; conducting research and collecting data; analyzing data and developing reports and presenting research findings in academic and policy-relevant journals or blogs.

Independent Verification Agent (IVA) to a World Bank funded program implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MoETE). November 2021 – Present (independent consultant with CARE International)• Lead technical consultant to the IVA team responsible for verifying the MoETE’s implementation of large-scale educational reforms part of a World Bank funded program called “Education Reform 1.0 and 2.0.”• Managing all technical components of the verification mission, including design of verification plan in coordination with the World Bank team, design of research tools, sampling plans, data management, data analysis, and verification report write-up. • Liaising with key personnel at the World Bank and the MoETE.

• Assisting Professor Susanna Campbell in the management of the implementation of a research project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) titled “Networks of Influence and Support between War and Peace,” – overseeing the implementation of project activities, budget, and role distribution with sub-awardee.• Participating in the research design of the project – including operationalizing key variables, creating measurement plans, contributing to project publications, and designing a codebook. • Mapping of international organizations, UN Agencies, and international and national NGOs operating in 20 conflict-affected countries with recent political missions or peacekeeping operations. Mapping of networks and coalitions in the humanitarian and development fields in case study countries.• Managing a team of researchers on the project – a total of 14 research assistants have supported the project since February 2022. Management roles have included training and orientation of RAs, general supervision, spot-checks and quality control, and general coordination. • Supporting in the management of other RIPIL projects as part of the RIPIL Leadership Team, alongside Professor Susanna Campbell and Christina Harris – including tasks which relate to budget management, administrative support, logistics and coordination, and general strategic planning with RIPIL leadership team.

Served as research assistant to the following professors at American University:• Rachel Robinson (research on global health, civil society-state relations, NGOs)• Shadi Mokhtari (research on human rights discourse in the Middle East and social mobilization)• Elizabeth Thompson (research on Egyptian cinema, political discourse, decolonization, political Islam, class, and women’s rights)• Susanna Campbell (research on non-state actors in humanitarian and conflict settings)

• Led the discussion section of three sections for the following undergraduate course without around 20 students in each section: “World Politics, SIS 105.”• Graded all class assignments and exams for students in three sections.

Consultant on UNICEF Egypt project proposing a school governing body in the Egyptian Education system. July – September 2020 (independent consultant with CARE International)• Managed and analyzed qualitative data collected using focus group discussions and in-depth interviews using iterative coding methods. Research explored the impact of COVID-19 on the operation of key school-management bodies, potential for synergies between separate school bodies, and the existence of child protection mechanisms in schools. • Synthesized results and wrote inception report for a project proposing a unified school governing body.

• Mapped existing cases where pro-reform government actors partner with citizens or civil society to promote accountability measures towards realizing a development objective.• Designed survey tools to assess and evaluate all cases.

Consultant to GIZ Egypt on designing a gender strategy for their development program. March – May 2018 (as part of CARE team); September 2019 – October 2019 (independent consultant with CARE)• Mapped capacity of GIZ program team in designing and implementing gender strategy.• Trained GIZ program team on conducting gender analyses, and designing gender-sensitive programming.• Designed gender strategy for program on improvement of public service provision in Upper Egypt.

Consultant to CARE Egypt on designing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) capacity building program. April to August 2019• Designed comprehensive M&E training package with specific modules on program quality, basic and advanced monitoring and evaluation skills, success stories, project design, and theory of change. • Delivered training to 25 staff members in CARE Egypt.

Consultant to CARE Egypt for policy briefs on Education Quality and the Learning Environment in Public Schools in Egypt as part of the “Supporting Participation and Accountability for Community’s Education (SPACE)” initiative, funded by the European Union. January – February 2019• Wrote three policy briefs exploring topics ranging from establishing more inclusive educational policies, creating resource mobilization strategies on the school level, and strengthening programs aiming to improve Arabic reading and writing skills for primary-level students.

Acted as lead researcher on a project titled "Social Movements in the Aftermath of the Arab Uprisings: Egypt and Jordan,” carried out by the Political Science Department at American University in Cairo, funded by Carnegie Corporation in New York• Mapped human rights and developmental NGOs in Egypt to identify motives for civic and political engagement.• Conducted focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with key players in Egyptian civil society to identify drivers of participation and grievances faced by CSO actors.• Organized roundtable discussions with governmental officials and parliamentarians to reflect on CSO grievances and motives of government policies towards CSOs.

• Established and managed M&E Unit in CARE Egypt, strengthened capacity of staff to create and systemize links and mechanisms for maximizing learning and knowledge sharing.• Headed CARE Egypt’s unified reporting and impact measurement system.• Ensured the integration of CARE 2020 global impact strategy and outcome indicators, CARE Egypt strategies and the SDGs into M&E systems.• Developed and regularly updated CARE Egypt’s fundraising and resource mobilization strategies.• Contributed to the development of CARE Egypt’s program strategies and objectives and link with results of 25 large scale projects, with an annual budget of 7-9 million USD.

• Led all implementation activities and operations of “Promoting Equitable Quality Education for Girls”, a 1,000,000 USD project in partnership with UN Women and the Japanese Embassy in Egypt. • Oversaw and supervised field teams in three governorates in Greater Cairo and Upper Egypt.• Facilitated coordination with Egypt’s Ministry of Education on all project-related activities and represented CARE Egypt in quarterly Steering Committee meetings.• Liaised with donors and prepared narrative and financial reports.• Managed the writing and production of concept papers, proposals, and progress reports, and maintained project performance indicators.

• Designed M&E plans for all education program projects to examine and enable the fulfillment of program and project objectives.• Identified lessons learned and best practices to enable learning and knowledge exchange.• Ensured the program is aligned with strategic objectives.• Led all research aimed at updating the program’s vision and scope by regularly mapping the literature on the status of education in Egypt, in addition to consulting with active organizations in the field, to identify, synthesize, and propose new strategies.• Provided technical input on any research study conducted for or by the program.• Designed research methodologies for baseline and final evaluations of several projects, adopting mixed methods approaches.• Led the design of a quasi-experimental evaluation of the quality of education and learning environment in 30 schools in 3 governorates in Upper Egypt.• Conducted monitoring visits to project field sites to investigate and assess interventions.• Collaborated with key stakeholders and beneficiaries to establish a participatory M&E process.• Researched and analyzed donor trends to identify funding opportunities and gaps.• Led the design and development of several concept notes and project proposals, 4 of which were successful proposals granted to CARE Egypt – with a total budget of 4.5 million USD.

In a project titled "Power 2 Youth," carried out by the Political Science Department at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and funded by the European Commission, I played the following roles: • Mapped youth-led/youth-targeting NGOs, campaigns, and groups in Egypt.• Researched state policies, decisions, and laws pertaining to youth inclusion, education, housing, employment, and migration.• Organized and conducted in-depth interviews and focus groups with selected organizations, community leaders, and youth groups.• Analyzed and synthesized quantitative and qualitative findings.• Led the development of reports and conference papers.

• Managed the ‘Adequate Housing’ Program for ECESR, a leading human rights NGO in Egypt that works through litigation, research, and local and international advocacy to protect social, economic and cultural rights in Egypt.• Co-founded the Urban Reform Coalition as ECESR’s Program Officer for the "Adequate Housing" file, in partnership with 5 organizations in January 2014, which successfully contributed to the inclusion of a description to the “right to adequate housing” as a category of rights in the 2014 Egyptian Constitution as well as a clause that prohibits forced eviction.• Spearheaded policy analysis research for publication and advocacy. • Participated in and reviewed reports produced by ECESR’s Research Unit, in collaboration with domestic and international partners.• Assisted the Executive Board in drafting annual plans and monitored their application.• Prepared periodic reports and oversaw research in several portfolios, including housing rights in Egypt, trade and investment, taxation, education, and health.• Facilitated collaboration with key stakeholders - including CSOs and government organizations.• Led submissions of several parallel and shadow reports to United Nations’ agencies, including the Universal Periodic Review, and the Parallel Report to the UN Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
