A leadership role supporting TPL's efforts to create parks and protect land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities while connecting everyone to the outdoors. In the process, fostering stronger connections between humans and the natural world. An integral member of the Northwest Philanthropy Team, providing direct impact on the annual operating and programmatic needs primarily focused on Oregon. While the role is principally focused on individual donors and prospects, the mixed portfolio also includes foundation and corporate donors.

We help organizations and destinations develop and manage tourism initiatives, with a strong emphasis on outdoor recreation. My primary focus is developing regenerative tourism strategies to help foster thriving communities and vibrant regional economies. Related work includes designing and facilitating the first annual Regenerative Tourism Strategy Summit in Southeast Alaska, as part of a larger initiative to create a regenerative tourism vision, strategy and plan for the region. Current and past clients include: Travel Oregon, Sustainable Southeast Partnership, Spruce Root, Greater Hells Canyon Council, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, and tourism partners in Malheur County, Oregon.

Six week contract working as an expedition guide and naturalist in remote locales including Antarctica, South Georgia Island, S. Orkney Islands and the Falkland Islands. Provided natural and cultural history interpretation in the field, delivered lectures and recaps aboard small expedition ships traveling to Antarctica, and operated Zodiacs.

A leadership role providing strategic vision, technical assistance and resources to tourism partners in all regions of Oregon. Worked to build trust, foster a greater sense of community, align visions, and develop outdoor recreation experiences providing tangible economic benefits to Oregon’s urban and rural communities.Managed the Oregon Outdoor Recreation Network, including a leadership team comprised of businesses, agencies, land managers, conservation groups and recreational user groups working toward a 15-year vision for outdoor recreation in Oregon. The initiative launched with several goals in mind: to build capacity and synergy to expand outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors; to create sustainable economic vitality for Oregon’s communities; and to make Oregon a world-class outdoor recreation destination for all.

Launched and managed REI Co-Op Outdoor Programs and Experiences in Portland, Oregon, building a team and developing a portfolio of outdoor experiences and community programs. Provided leadership for all brand, communications and customer interaction across REI's local experiences business in Oregon. Managed the design, management, and implementation of a diverse portfolio of programs to create positive social and environmental impact through guiding services, civic engagement and environmental stewardship, public-private sector partnerships, philanthropy and public policy initiatives. Responsible for strategic direction, planning, budgeting, and execution of all REI programs in Oregon, building a business with $300K+ annual revenue and engaging more than 20K participants annually. Managed a $110K annual giving portfolio, supporting environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation development in NW Oregon. Managed a diverse team of 25 direct reports.

Designed and developed an innovative stewardship and habitat restoration program for Portland’s 5000+ acre Forest Park. Key programs included trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and planing of native trees and shrubs. Developed the Greater Forest Park Conservation Initiative, a visionary roadmap to restore and protect not just Forest Park, but the surrounding ecosystem totaling more than 15,000 acres. To support this initiative, forged partnerships with with key regional and community partners, including private landowners.

Worked in a variety of capacities as a seasonal contractor: designing and leading wilderness-based program for teenagers and educators; designed and worked as instructor on a series of natural and cultural history backpacking seminars; developed a wilderness risk management plan for the organization.

Worked as lead natural science faculty for the Rocky Mountain Semester, a semester program for high school juniors integrating wilderness education with rigorous academics. Developed and taught high school level natural science curricula both in the classroom and in the field, with an emphasis on the Southern Rockies bioregion. Also worked as expedition leader on several 10-day wilderness trips each semester, backpacking and winter/ski touring. · Taught wilderness skills, leadership, and communication classes to all students · Mentored one or more teaching apprentices each semester
