NSB AS was one of Norway's most important transport companies, with traditions going back to the opening of the first railway in Norway in 1854.The NSB Group's main activities comprise passenger traffic on trains and buses and rail freight traffic.The IT-systems in the Operations consist of systems for planning schedules, rolling stock and personell, the operational systems for running the trains and handling exeptions to the plans and the systems for analysis and reporting. This also includes the communication systems to the trains like GSM-R and Internet.

Cappelen was a major publisher in Norway within all areas and has several bookclubs. Cappelen has now merged with another large publisher and is named Cappelen Damm. Sentraldistibusjon is a distribution central owned by Cappelen Damm. SD distributes books for more than 100 publishers and handles around 50% of the book distribution in Norway. As CIO I was responsible for architecture, strategy, personell and budget for both Cappelen and Sentraldistribusjon. The IT department had up to 15 employees handling network, servers, work stations, applications and development of key applications specific to the book industry.

Editor of the UNINETT news bulletin UNINyTT from 1989 to 1991.UNINETT Project Manager for connecting the remainding 75 locations for higher education to the Internet in 1992. Norway reached a 100% Internet coverage in higher education in October 1992.Member of NORDUnet engineering task force.

Editor of "ABC for Mikromaskiner 2. utgave"Project Manager for connecting PCs to the network 1989-1990. With UNIX as the main plattform, PC-NFS from Sun was the choice for integrating PC with the network.

Worked with IBM mainframe systems, Norsk Data, DEC VAX, old machines for Kongsberg våpenfabrikk and other. Had the first generation PCs tested and installed. We created online connection between the various machines before Ethernet and TCP/IP was an option. A good school in a time when computing was something strange and mainly confined to the computer department.
