Project: As part of an international team made up of social anthropologists, I work on the ERC-funded “From Warfare to Welfare – Afterlives of War: Veteran’s Reintegration and Mental Health, an Anthropological Approach’.Role: Carrying out semi-structured qualitative interviews and ethnographic research methods with military veterans; thematically coding and analyzing interview transcripts; providing written research for reports, academic publications and conference presentations.

Project: As part of an interdisciplinary research team, made up of geographers, sociologists, psychologists and neuroscientists, I worked as research associate on the Volkswagen funded project: ‘Wandering Minds: Interdisciplinary Experiments on Self-Generated Thought’, based at Hubbub, the Wellcome Collection.Role (research): My role varied between (a) conducting archival and secondary source research on the subjects of daydream, reverie, hallucination and mind wandering in Western historical context, (b) designing and conducting face-to-face, phenomenological informed, semi-structured interviews with psychology experiment participants, (c) writing peer reviewed research papers and book chapters (d) organizing workshops and working group activities that included internal and external research partners.Role: (public engagement): My work extends into public engagement activity, including working with illustrators, set builders, audio-visual technicians and radio producers when making an interactive ‘mind wandering booth’ for the public exhibition ‘Rest and its Discontents’ at the Mile End Arts Pavilion, London. I also organized a public seminar, chaired by a BBC radio presenter, also held at Mile End, and contributed towards social media coverage.

Role: To coordinate all events at a flagship NTS property, including the Crathes Half Marathon, Christmas, Easter and Halloween weekends and theatre productions. Liaising with colleagues in media, learning, garden, ranger, archives, conservation, hospitality, tickets and property guides, as well as external stakeholders, I coordinated events to strict budgets, and took on varying managerial duties. I was awarded the Buccleuch seed corn funding to support new learning initiatives I implemented at the property that were in support of the teaching aims of NTS learning, garden and ranger teams.

Project: Leith Hall, community research group, history of an WWI auxiliary hospital.Role: To (a) form a community research project, (b) train members of the research group in archival research and exhibition design skills, (c) organize off site research trips to museums, archives and creative spaces, (d) work with archive and curatorial staff, as well as group volunteers, to coordinate the production of an exhibition, displayed to the public at Leith Hall, Garden and Estate.
