About Hazel Robertson

A bit about me 👇I’ve planned and executed expeditions to remote parts of the world such as Alaska and the Arctic, all to raise awareness of key issues, including how a changing climate is affecting the environment, wildlife and people that live in these places. One thing I've learned from these expeditions is how important mindset is. When I was on on day 10 of skiing solo across Hardangervidda and woke up to deep snow that was going to make the next hill take most of the day to climb - or when me and my kayak expedition partner (/husband) were stuck on a tiny island in the Pacific with torrential rain for the 4th day in a row - thinking “I quit” or “I can’t do this” is not really an option. It induces a sense of helplessness and feeling stuck. What I discovered from these experiences is that this type of suffering is completely optional. Instead, being aware of what we're thinking and then training our brains to think thoughts that are helpful to the situation is one of the most powerful things we can do on expedition. This directly applies not only to expeditions, but to everyday life, with all its challenges and opportunities. What we think - how we think about things - affects every single part of our lives: how we feel, how we interact with others and ultimately what we create. This is what I help purpose-driven founders and senior leaders tap into with my international coaching and training business, Everyday Impact. So they can build resilience and continue to perform at the highest level, harnessing their creativity and the power of their minds to solve some of the world's biggest challenges like climate change. Before co-founding Everyday Impact I worked for over 11 years as an experienced advisor and senior consultant in the low carbon energy and sustainability sector, with a track record of delivering successful funding bids and leading international teams to deliver highly-integrated multi-million pound projects.

  • Royal Scottish Geographical Society
    Explorer In Residence
Royal Scottish Geographical Society Feb 2017 - Present
    Scotland
The role of Explorer in Residence (EiR) was introduced in 2014, by Chief Executive Mike Robinson, in order to recognise some of the best young explorers and the role that exploration still plays in inspiring people about the world around them. The aim of the EiR role is to excite people about the world’s physical and cultural variety, to awaken people’s personal potential and better inform them about global issues.Talking about the role of RSGS in exploration Mike Robinson said:“RSGS has an incredibly rich history of association with many of the most influential names in exploration of the last 150 years. We were founded by David Livingstone’s daughter, Agnes, Ernest Shackleton worked for the society and William Speirs Bruce, who was a council member, led the first Scottish Antarctic expedition in 1902. In addition we have hosted most of the leading lights in exploration of the last 130 years including Hillary, Amundsen, Scott, Stark, Mallory, Shipton, Kingsley, Bird, Nansen, Armstrong, Heyerdahl and many many others. However this is not an historical role, we continue to play host to most of the leading contemporary explorers and adventurers.“I am delighted to welcome Luke and Hazel Robertson on board as our latest Explorers in Residence. They have a wonderful energy and an infectious enthusiasm and are great role models for future generations interested in the world around them. I look forward to helping Luke and Hazel accomplish much more and wish them the best of luck as we follow them, albeit remotely, on their Alaskan adventure.”
