Transferred from Temp, Medical Records Field Tech to Permanent, Full Time Release Of Information Specialist II in August 2016. Placed at Bristol Regional Medical Center in the Medical Records/H.I.M. Dept. Duties involved processing patient requests for medical records. As well as from outside entities, i.e.: Insurance Claims, Legal Claims, Subpoena’s, Forensic investigations, Continuing Care Requests, Law Enforcement Investigations, HIPAA Investigations, Health Department/CDC requests, etc. Responsible for validating the legality of such requests, ensuring patient confidentiality be maintained at all steps of the request process through delivery of records. Trouble-shoot software difficulties, problem solving patient concerns, collecting incoming request via phone, fax, mail, and email. Report suspicious request to management, delivery of medical records via mail, electronically, burned to cd, and on site. Position required the ability to work independently, proficiently, accurately, and with the utmost discretion. Initiate and Maintain courteous and professional relationships with other departments on site and off due to the various items maintained in patient medical records. Involved the ability to comprehend difficult medical terminology, abbreviations, and various languages/handwriting. As well as investigate, confirm, and validate various entities across the entire U.S. for releasing of Continuing Care Records. Multi-tasking on a daily basis was a norm for this position. Responsible for completing Annual Continuing Education Courses regarding changes in medical laws, regulations, and company policies in order to ensure that there are no breaches of PHI.
