After completing my Masters of Science specializing in advanced care and education from Wheelock College, I quickly began my work with a local Early Head Start under the auspices of the Quincy Community Action Program spending five years working on ways to help families and their children to eliminate barriers to full participation in the program. I have an additional two years’ experience within the social work field as a family life advocate. After relocating to Vermont, I spent the two years fulfilling a contracted position in the Vermont statewide early childhood system coordinating and facilitating activities to engage and involve parents of children birth to age three with developmental delays or disabilities.I furthermore have received training on the Bridges Out Of Poverty model and the Community Café model to engage in meaningful conversations. Reducing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) through authentically engaging with families using the Strengthening Families approach to eliminate barriers to full participation in schools and community has been my primary focus for the more recent four years experience. In providing mental health case management/case coordination and skills building supports to primary grade students within a school-based setting, I have worked in partnership with clients to create a clinical treatment plan that has meaning and encourages the development of helpful and healthy social-emotional skills.Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic and during the statewide shut down of support services, my positions have allowed work to be done from home or in the community and my quality of work does not suffer due to being out of a supervised office space. I have a commitment to working as part of a team and acceptance of supervision. Finally, my volunteer experience has expanded my knowledge of full life, not just my early childhood work experience.
