About Heather Davies

Proactive and highly organised individual with 3 years' experience managing 'social retail' projects (pantries, larders, community supermarkets) as a way to prevent individuals from needing to access emergency food provision through offering a huge range of food at discounted cost in a dignified retail environment. This is a niche but up and coming area of expertise which links in to numerous government and international targets around food poverty. I am motivated to reduce social inequalities across food systems, not only food insecurity but also the array of other systemic injustices faced by marginalised groups worldwide. Currently I am managing the launch of the Threehills Community Supermarket and looking to connect with others in the Greater Glasgow area with whom I could collaborate on delivering wraparound support based at the Supermarket Hub (e.g. money advice, befriending, social activities). Likewise, if you're a farmer, producer or supplier looking to support a community food project, get in touch at heather@threehillsglasgow.org I previously worked with the Your Local Pantry network, project managing a pantry in southeast Edinburgh. My MSc Gastronomy research dissertation was developed in collaboration with Edinburgh Agroecology Cooperative and uses a systems thinking approach to explore the social impacts of the CSA Market Garden initiative at Lauriston Farm. Beyond this, I am Chair and founding member of Leith Community Growers, a grassroots organisation developing opportunities for small-scale urban food growing. I'm not a grower, but I know how things grow! My weekends are usually filled with partner acrobatics, handstands or social dancing (lindy hop, blues, salsa) and having lived in Peru and Chile for 1.5 years as an ex-linguist I have a soft spot for languages and learning about indigenous cultures and traditions, particularly those around food!
