Counter Assistant
Ashington, Northumberland, Uk
At Ramsdens I have many roles within the title of branch assistant. Ramsdens is a pawnbroker, foreign currency exchange, gold buyer, and jewellery retailer, as well as other minor products and services. The most complex service is pawnbroking which involves identifying, testing, and arranging loans on a variety of gold and silver jewellery. In order to do this, I must have I keen eye for detail to ensure that I identify the correct metal and, in the case of diamonds, gemstone. I must also accurately test the items to ensure that my initial identification is correct. I must calculate the correct loan amount to offer the customer using accurate mathematical skills then explain what the loan involves and what is expected of them in a way that the customer can easily understand prior to any contracts being signed. Through jewellery retail and foreign currency exchange, I build rapport with the customers while ensuring that they receive excellent service and leave the branch with what they want and a positive view of the company.Since my branch manager takes on a lot of work from the area manager, she is often unavailable during the day to day running of the branch, I have unofficially taken up the mantle to ensure that we are legally compliant (as we deal with a lot of personal and sensitive information), that the branch is kept clean and tidy, and that all the background work, e.g. the weekly reports that are required by head office, are completed accurately and in a timely manner.Upon returning to the business after several weeks furlough I have been tasked with running another branch in my area while the branch manager of that location remains on furlough. It is my responsibility to ensure that both staff and customers adhere to government and company Covid-19 health and safety guidelines as well as completing the usual tasks required in the running of a branch.
