I got this. Most people don't have their own mission statement, but they should. A mission statement provides clarity and direction during challenging times. Looking back, I wouldn't have always called it a mission statement, but more of a catchphrase.Throughout college, as friends would panic at the end of each year, I found myself saying, I got this. As graduation approached, with the economy in the tank, and everyone trying to find a job to pay back their student loans, I found myself saying, I got this. I started at Innereactive a month prior to my graduation. I only interviewed for the position for "the practice," not because I actually thought I would receive a job offer. Shortly after starting, I learned my direct supervisor and only other person in my department was pregnant. When she inquired how I felt about handling it on my own, I said, I got this (after a very excited exclamation of joy). After working at Innereactive for a few years, I became the Office Manager and my catchphrase changed. Instead of saying I got this, I found myself saying we've got this and eventually you've got this. Managing a team of passionate and creative people has taught me how to delegate work and create a process so everyone is confident about the direction we are moving. As I said, I didn't realize I was creating my mission statement and even now, it seems kind of silly as far as mission statements go, but it continues to hold true. These three simple words inspire me to work through life problems, both personal and professional, and my goal is to instill that same inspiration into others.
