In 2009, the year I worked for S&H, the magazine was the winner of the FOLIO Bronze Award for Editorial Excellence and the Utne Independent Press Award in Health/Wellness for outstanding journalism.I was responsible for managing editorial, payment amount, contracts, due dates, etc. I also line editing and proofed every word that appeared in the magazine for the year 2009. Conceived and wrote the column "Material World" as well as short articles for the U&O section when needed.Created spreadsheets for payroll.

I was the only editorial employee of S&H Books.Responsible for pitching and acquiring work. Worked directly with authors in ms. development, line edited and proofed all 4 books that were published last year, plus another that's due in spring.Wrote, designed (InDesign) and created publicity information sheets for the book.Maintained databases with the distributor.Created interior design for "The Virtue of Wealth," "Going Out Green" and "Journaling." Worked with Lulu and CreateSpace to create galleys, and in the case of "Journaling," to make a 100% POD book.Created indexes for "The Virtue of Wealth," "Cooks' House," and "Kitchen Alchemy."

Editorial responsibilities included: examining every book that came through the office; selecting the books that would appear in the magazine; conceiving, coordinating and selecting books for the magazine articles; working with reviewers; conceiving, coordinating and selecting books for special sections; line editing and proofing of every word that appeared in the magazine.Writing responsibilities included a bi-monthly letter that appeared in the magazine, the children's picture book spread, and articles and reviews as needed.Web site responsibilities included a weekly blog (for 1.5 years) and a weekly Book Club selection of a short story or essay, plus introduction by the author or myself.Management responsibilities included training of review editors (meaning the editors that handled reviewers) and magazine content and design.
