Post-doctoral research scientist working at The University of Manchester. I work across multiple projects that explore the role of ERK5 (a mitogen-activate kinase family member) in the progression pathways of various cancers. These projects span themes such as migration/adhesion, invasion/metastasis, tumour immunology, cell cycle/survival, and mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance. Since the interventions are less cytotoxicity-focussed than many traditional therapies, it is hoped that selective targeting of ERK5 (and/or upstream mediators such as MEK5) may allow for treatment of previously unresponsive cancers or restoration of chemotherapy sensitivity.I play an active role in the management of a busy lab space, acting as a Local Safety Advisor and attend divisional Health and Saftey Committee meeatings. I have extensive experience conducting risk assessments for substances and processes. I have helped to develop and implement systems for management of waste streams, stock management and green initiatives. I have written key standard operating procedure documents and induction materials as well as manage the training of both staff and students in lab processes and use of equipment. I’m currently working toward a LEAP Fellowship and hope to complete this in the next academic year, ultimately hoping to contribute further to teaching within the higher-education environment.
