I sample wastewater at the wastewater plant for for CBOD, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, TSS, E. Coli and total settleable solids. I perform monthly sampling of sites on the reservation and in the surrounding counties, which is performed on a 6-year rotating sub-basin schedule. The samples taken look at the DO, temperature, pH, TN, TP, turbidity, and e. coli. TN samples are analyzed using Hach TNT TKN and NO2/NO3 on the Hach 3900. For phosphorus, Hach TNT is used on the Hach DR 3900. I write grant proposals, yearly workplans to the EPA, update and maintain QAPPs and SOPs, attend professional meetings, and do community outreach and education. We will be starting coliphage analysis soon. I am the manager of the Tribal Wetlands Program. After the tribal wetland areas are mapped in ArcGIS, they will be assessed for functionality using NC WAM and monitored long term. Plant specimens are taken from each site and stored in the herbarium and seed bank at the lab to use in propagation so that the plants can be used in future stream and wetland restoration projects.
