A Better Start is The National Lottery Community Fund's £215m transformation programme, which is funding the development of new models of healthcare and children's services in 5 areas of England My achievements included: • Developing and managing the shared learning function to ensure that the funded A Better Start partnerships drew on the latest policy, evidence and best practice in designing their service portfolios• Raising the Fund’s profile with policy makers by briefing Select Committees, APPGs and Government departments. Secured commitments relating to the commissioning and delivery of health visiting and mental health services• Advising on the design and delivery of the ‘Big Little Moments’ campaign, working in partnership with a marcomms agency to promote healthy parenting in 5 local areas• Creating a range of resources to communicate programme learning to different audiences, and built relationships with senior leaders, experts and policy makers to promote A Better Start nationally and internationally• Commissioning a £1m social research project on workforce development, managing a matrix team comprising contractors and internal staff to secure successful delivery

I managed the secretariat and work programme for the All Party Parliamentary Group for Children, working closely with MPs and Peers.Between 2013-15, I led the APPGC's inquiry into 'Children and the Police' and delivering an integrated communications strategy resulting in national and local press and broadcast media coverage (BBC, The Guardian, Sky) The inquiry led to policy and systems change in how the police work with children, including: - the development of a national strategy on the policing of children and young people- new legislation to prohibit children from being detained in police custody under the Mental Health Act and to ensure that 17-year-olds are treated as minors in police custody

I was the policy and public affairs lead for NCB's work on early years, education and health. Key achievements:• Developed and led NCB’s public affairs strategy, enabling NCB and its partners to significantly increase their profile with UK Government and Parliament• Co-managed Sex Education Forum’s ‘SRE It’s My Right’ campaign, leading to statutory Relationships and Sex Education in all primary and secondary schools• Engaged MPs and Peers during the passage of the Childcare Act, Children and Families Act, and Health and Social Care Act to achieve legislative and statutory change, including a national early years workforce strategy• Researched and drafted reports on specialist areas of child and youth policy, presenting evidence at roundtables and conferences to inform policy debates• Managed a small team and supported junior staff with their career development
