Oversee administration, programs and operational strategic plan. Key duties include fundraising, marketing, managing teams and community outreach. Report to and work collaboratively with the board of directors. Plan and execute the annual budget. Review and approve contracts for services. Maintain fiscal integrity and management of resources in a positive financial position. Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and day-to-day operations. Primary spokesperson to the constituents, the media, and general public. Oversee marketing and other communication efforts. Recruit volunteers and board members. Interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups. Coach and teach team leads. Develop and implement key fundraising strategies and cultivate donor relations. Identify and tend to the spiritual and emotional needs of team members/volunteers to establish resilience and transformational service.

Recruit, train, lead and manage other hospice chaplains. Work with an interdisciplinary team meeting weekly. Organize and prioritize daily responsibilities, managing multiple assignments between direct patient care, explanation of benefits for families, team patient visits, liason to faith community and volunteers. Champion optimal patient/family care experience. Business process improvement. Strategic program development through periodic evaluation of services for staff and patients/families. Conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis surveys. Proactive approach to creating positive employee experience and preventing care provider burnout and compassion fatigue. Lead collaborative efforts for team building, conflict resolution, group interaction and dynamics.

Assure spiritual assessment of patients/families and caregivers in the hospice program. Facilitate the development of individualized plan of care to meet identified emotional and spiritual needs. Provide direct spiritual care. Serve as liason for community chaplains and spiritual counselors. Maintain records of services for quality assurance and program development. Attend interdisciplinary group meetings and patient care conference. Provide consultation, education, and support to IDG. Recruit community chaplains and volunteers adequate to serve needs by developing community contacts/offering education through congregations. Assist in supervision and coaching of spiritual care volunteers. Plan periodic memorial services, providing for family requested needs.

Lead/OC Hospice Chaplain duties, Plus: Responsible to plan, implement, and maintain a bereavement program to meet the needs of families/care providers for up to one-year following the death a hospice patient. Complete a bereavement assessment and coordinate delivery of grief counseling needs/services to ensure timely and appropriate services are provided to families/care providers. Offer experienced clinical grief counseling to families/care providers. Plan and supervise retreats, support groups, and in-service trainings. Provide bereavement support to hospice personnel coping with work related grief through one-to-one counseling and referral to community resources.

Offer emotional support and spiritual care to patients and patients’ family members, assessing and addressing needs as appropriate. Coordinate patient coverage with staff chaplains on assigned units and develop collegial relationships with interdisciplinary staff. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary rounds as appropriate, representing patients’ pastoral and emotional interests. Respond to requests for support regarding pastoral and ethical matters. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient visitations. Serve as on-call chaplain for both hospitals. Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients, in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.

Assist lead pastor in religious services and daily operations. Effectively cast the church mission and vision of lead pastor to the congregation. Manage educational programs that maintain and grow membership. Responsible to preach intermittent Sunday sermons, lead prayer, teach a weekly home group. Oversee congregational care and administer monthly contact. Organize hospitality care for families in need, initiate hospital/infirmed visitation and be available for spiritual guidance for those in crisis. Recruit, equip, develop and guide lay individuals and teams. Meet weekly with lead pastor for continuing Bible education. Meet monthly with leadership team to debrief, develop and implement strategies that strengthen areas requiring growth. Participate in annual strategic planning weekend.
