I developed an interest in “all things career” early on in my life; by the time I was in college, I began the process of founding my first company, Allison & Taylor. Allison & Taylor has been in the business of checking references for individuals and corporate clients since 1984. We have successfully built our brand and corporate recognition and have been recommended by industry specialists; we’ve also been recognized by numerous newspapers and magazines. My passion for the electronic frontier and e-commerce began in 1997 when best-selling author, Martin Yate, and I launched CareerBrain. The concept of CareerBrain was hatched when we noticed that interview bias is real and disturbing; when candidates apply for a job, if their interviewer has prejudices against certain ethnicities, religions, or any other group of people, this can in turn bias them against the job applicant. CareerBrain used virtual interviewing techniques so that interviews would become ‘faceless’ and job screeners would base their hiring decisions completely on merit. This innovative company caught the attention of the University of Michigan as they were seeking the most promising new companies on the horizon. CareerBrain received an invitation to present our new business concept at The 1999 Growth Capital Symposium – University of Michigan, Graduate School of Business, Office for the Study of Private Equity Finance. My early passion for fairness and justice in the business world when it comes to recruiting and retention has come full circle for me, with my company, Allison & Taylor, successful and thriving within the field that I enjoy. When it’s time for me to recharge, I turn to my other passion, which is for travel. And sometimes the very best travel is to our four children’s homes, where we can spend time with our favorite people of all, including the most beautiful, brilliant, and talented grandchildren the world has ever seen (but of course I’m the biased one here…).
