As a research assistant in the Luking Lab, I assist Dr. Luking in her research at St. Louis University. This experience has taught me more advanced psychological research techniques, such as using an EEG machine to collect data. I am currently working on Dr. Luking’s “HER” study, which aims to analyze emotions in young teen girls (age 11-14) throughout their menstrual cycle. This study analyses how social situations such as peer rejection and social acceptance influence their emotions. My role in this study is an EEG head technician, which consists of setting up the EEG and recording data. Additionally, I am also on the RedCap task force, where I work with other researchers to develop questionnaires for our study. This experience has taught me how to improve my academic writing skills in the field of psychology and work with a research team.

As a babysitter, I ensure that the children are safe and taken care of while their parents are away. This experience has taught me problem solving, creativity, child care, and risk prevention skills. I have babysat children of all ability levels, which has taught me to meet children where they are at. Similarly, this experience has helped me in my roles as a volunteer and camp counselor by providing me with necessary training in safety awareness and working with children with disabilities.

This six-week summer camp allowed me to gain more hands on experience working with children and adults with disabilities. In my role as a camp counselor, I helped transition campers between activities, assisted them in activities when needed, and encouraged campers to participate in activities. I also fed campers who could not feed themselves. This experience has taught me patience, leadership, and communication skills.

This experience has allowed me to work one on one with children who have developmental disabilities. I played with children, helped them problem solve, and encouraged them to interact with the other children in the gym and volunteers. This experience has taught me how to help others work through meltdowns, how to maintain professionalism, and how to accommodate people in the most effective ways possible.

As a research assistant in the Collaborative Undergraduate Billiken Behavior Lab, I collected data for a replication study regarding awe and humility. Through this experience, I also became proficient in JASP and RStudio. I am able to analyze datasets and derive meaning from them.
