• Supervised teams caring for Asiatic black bears, European brown bears, and Tibetan brown bears• Retrained former farmhands in the care of 120+ Asiatic black bears in Nanning, China, by introducing concepts of animal welfare, creating husbandry and behavioural enrichment routines, and developing a food order and procurement system as well as establishing and maintaining weekly reports which were circulated throughout the management team• Coordinated with the director of the bear and vet department to recruit and train new employees• Managed the volunteer programme, improvement of documentation given to applicants, rostering, project delegation and training in the use of ethograms to capture behavioural observations

• Established and oversaw a zoo-wide behavioural enrichment programme to improve the welfare of a range of species, resulting in the introduction of an extensive range of behavioural enrichment designed to encourage the natural behavioural repertoires of animals living at the zoo, thereby increasing animal welfare and zoo visitor experience• Delivered information and engaging educational talks to members of the public• Represented the work of the zoo at international industry conferences and symposia• Selected for a Taronga Conservation Society grant to travel to White Oak Conservation Centre in Florida, USA, to study cheetah husbandry and breeding

• Oversaw team of 4 animal carers and up to 3 volunteers in the care of companion animals• Coordinated the evacuation of all animals and staff from the sanctuary three times during the 2002 Blue Mountains bushfires• Communicated with managers and colleagues as well as provided exceptional customer service to all stakeholders• Performed routine animal care tasks such as cleaning cages and enclosures, medicating, feeding, exercising and assessing animals, and providing basic first aid
