About Heitor Ramos

I am a passionate Computer Science Professor currently working at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, with 10+ years of experience in teaching Computer Science classes, advising graduate students, and coordinating R&D projects. My main research interests are focused on data analysis for the Internet of Things, Sensor Networks, Social Networks, and Urban Computing applications. I have been an active member of the scientific community, where I published 70+ scientific papers in different conferences and periodicals and 1 USPTO patent.     Microsoft Research (MSR)/Sensing and Energy Group, supervised by Dr. Jie Liu, summer of 2010I worked in the development of a low energy GPS system for mobile devices, called Low Energy Assisted Positioning (LEAP). In the LEAP mode, a GPS receiver can shut down most of its internal components and heavily duty cycles its RF front-end. LEAP results were shown at Microsoft Tech Fest edition of 2011, as a demo, and at ACM Ubicomp’11 conference, the best paper of ACM Sensys'12 conference, a regular paper on IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and a granted patent on USPTO.
