Since qualifying in 2001 I have consistently demonstrated a commitment to undertake professional development as opportunities have arisen. I have continued to engage with, and implement changes to my teaching and leadership style. I have worked with stakeholders across the school communities within which I have worked.In 2014, I embraced the role of SENCo and undertook the SENCo award through Wolverhampton University. This experience helped me to understand the wider aspects of the SEND agenda and the importance of inclusion to support all children to achieve their potential. As a result I led and supported the teaching team with the graduated response for pupils with Special Educational Needs.As a reflective practitioner I ensured that all pupils were included in all aspects of classroom life. I truly believe that building good relationships with pupils and demonstrating respect and kindness will bring about positive outcomes for all pupils. During my time as SENCo at St Peter’s and subsequently at Arboretum I have worked across the phases and begun to develop my understanding of the early identification of SEND needs in the Early Years. I have worked with colleagues to understand the communication needs of very young children and as a result of these interactions have been able to support children and their families to access the support that they need from external agencies. I have kept abreast of the changes in SEND over the years through attendance at Local Authority and DDAT network meetings and my own personal study.I am a highly organised individual who remains calm under pressure, I am able to horizon scan considering the long term goals, whilst continuing to meet the immediate needs of pupils. I am a team player with demonstrated interpersonal and motivational skills who has the passion and drive to support pupils to realise their potential.
