I volunteer as a Peer Supporter for Together. My role entails providing emotional and some practical support (such as signposting and research) to service users who are experiencing or have experienced mental distress. The aim of the sessions is to assist the service users to achieve person-led goals and reach their potential. I keep and maintain records, am always mindful of safeguarding and ensure I remain within professional boundaries.To this end I received comprehensive training from the charity.

This included processing referrals, maintaining the database, creating and editing referral forms, processing and creating invoices and purchase orders. At this charity I was the team administrator for the Advocacy department. I was the first point of call for enquiries to the service and handled a wide variety of queries from service users, the public, professionals and colleagues. I took professional and comprehensive notes on referrals to handover to colleagues and often handled basic issues with cases. I managed the referral process, logging and entering them using a complex datasheet on Excel. Myself and my manager allocated the referrals to advocates and I maintained the filing system for the service. I also managed the inbox, assisted at events, ordered stationery, printed promotional information and monitored stock levels. I integrated the data to assist with reports as well as cleansing and correcting entries. I often dealt with challenging and emotive calls in a calm, professional and reassuring manner and was praised for this.

I worked in a range of departments and several libraries in this position, both in a front-line customer service and administration. In my acquisitions role I was involved in complex data entry and dealt with book ordering and the collation of data.
