I offered one-to-one counselling to young people aged 13-25 in a community-based youth agency.

I offered play-based one-to-one counselling to children in a primary school setting. I also ran self-referral lunchtime drop-in sessions and co-facilitated group work.

I offered play and creative arts therapy to young people in school using play and creative resources, liaising with staff and parents.

I offered one-to-one counselling in a secondary school setting. I jointly planned and facilitated group work and supported a Parenting Teenagers course. My work included liaising with staff and parents as well as professionals in other agencies when appropriate, whilst respecting client confidentiality.

I counselled men in an open prison in the final months of their custodial sentence, on a voluntary basis. This involved working independently within the prison, liaising with staff when appropriate.

I offered counselling support to adults around their bereavements and related issues, using outcome measures to monitor clients’ progress. Undertook additional training about children’s bereavement, e.g. the effect of bereavement on children and families, how children grieve, the impact of suicide on a family, the impact of a child’s death and the impact of parental death.

I helped to host a group for parents and their babies and young children. My primary role was to listen to parents about issues they were experiencing, such as: parenting, isolation, mental health problems, relationship difficulties, financial pressures, housing, career issues, and children with special needs. I also helped to set up and clear away resources and supported young children in their play.

I was responsible for the care and education of children aged 2-5 in a busy Pre-school, building trusting relationships with the children, planning activities and supporting children in their play and exploration. I liaised with parents about their child's care, and kept accurate records including observations of children's play. I worked cooperatively as part of the staff team.

I volunteered in a nursery school (for children aged 3-5), playing games and reading with children, supporting their play indoors and outdoors, facilitating creative, imaginative and computer-based play, supporting children with tidying away and assisting staff with practical tasks.

I supported adults with learning disabilities to engage in outings and interests and to develop life skills, e.g. shopping and cooking. The role involved planning and arranging these activities based on clients’ interests and facilitating their participation in them.

I worked with over 50 probationers, meeting regularly with them, maintaining boundaries, keeping accurate records and monitoring the progress of their sentence. The role required a respectful and boundaried approach and involved working with men and women from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I supported students aged 8-9 with their work in whole-class settings, in small groups and one-to-one. I worked with children from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds and with a range of learning needs. The role required me to work in a team with the class teacher and to establish trust with the children – and to enjoy being with them!

I visited a home for adults with long-term mental health conditions, listened to residents’ concerns and raised these with staff.

I completed a two-year training contract in a large provincial firm of solicitors. My role included attending court, advising clients at the office, at court or in the police station, and drafting statements and legal documents. My training included placements in family law, criminal law, employment law and commercial property departments.
