Eco Showboat is a collaborative project with the mission to produce thought provoking and engaging art events, to connect with and inspire the public in response to climate change. Using a converted carbon neutral boat, the Mayfly, Eco Showboat has visited waterfront communities and towns, providing family-friendly days out. These days included interactive activities and talks with a prime focus to inspire awareness on climate change.Eco Showboat currently consists of two ecological floating arts infrastructures. The first being the Mayfly, a yacht which was converted into a carbon neutral vessel relying entirely on power harvested from solar panels. Eco Showboat delivered a successful programme in the summer of 2022 on the Mayfly, voyaging along the River Shannon and Erne systems, from Limerick to Enniskillen. The second infrastructure is an ongoing project and will upscale the services that we can provide. We are in the process of renovating a large heritage barge, the 48M, which was originally built in 1929. This will be converted to carbon neutral status while also serving as a mobile arts and science platform. This will give us a greater space to mentor artists and help us to make more impactful communications with the public. This barge will also allow access to different areas of the Irish waterways, where the Mayfly couldn’t access, thus expanding the reach of our tours.I am currently carrying out administrative tasks to assist in the smooth running of the organisation and to attempt to get the word out there about the project.
