I served as a food pantry caseworker with the Christian Appalachian Project through its affiliation with Americorps Kentucky. While serving in this role I not only volunteered in the community but I also lived in the community, and built invaluable connections with the people living there. I helped participants (called as such because these individuals participated in the programs of the organization) receive much-needed supplemental food supplies, and made delivery runs when necessary to make sure that everyone in Rockcastle county had the opportunity to receive food. I also took over the backpack program to ensure that school-aged children would receive food on the weekends as well as weekdays.
