Altogether, Helene has over 15 years of hand-on experience on biotechnology and intensive aquaculture in highly recycled water. Her expertise on nitrification is based on her four years of research as a Ph.D. student while she devised the best ways of rapidly establish nitrifying biofilters. She was Hatchery Manager for the University of Montreal Experimental Farm, and while at AQUABIOTECH INC. she designed and tested a number innovations for recirculating aquaculture systems, including a five-years closed-system pilot project which produced 6-tons of salmon smolts, and many innovative devices for Aquaculture recycling systems.She has been involved with the Canadian Research Network in Aquaculture in a collaborative research project on water recirculation technologies under the auspices of Nova-Scotia Agricultural College and Laval University. She is also an invited speaker at the Canadian Aquaculture Association and the Canadian Aquaculture Alliance.Hélène was a consultant for the Irish Sea Fisheries Board (BIM) in evaluating shellfish holding facilities in Ireland. Aquabiotech has installed several closed-circuit shellfish holding systems. She has contributed to the design of an innovative Lobster Condo™ 20-ton closed system in Scotland for the long-term storage of lobster, a 550,000 lbs live lobster facility in Canada, and several other facilities across the world. All told, there are more than a hundred of these closed systems in operation in Canada, USA and in Europe.
